hey guys.. i need some advice.. My check engine light came on a while ago.. a few weeks now.. and i finally called and made an appointment with lexus for a diag.. I still have my powertrain warranty and i asked the guy if O2 sensors are covered with that and he said they werent. I've heard that these are a main cause of the check engine light.. do you think its worth the 96 bucks for the diag if the chances are high that it is a sensor and it wont be covered? basically.. should i cancel the appointment for a diag because its very likely it will be the sensor?
Edit: my IS is an '01 e shift btw if that makes a diff

I have a diagnostic tool. I could check it for you. But I think you live in Jersey.

is it a pain in the ass? would you be down to bring it to the palisades meet.. my scheduled diag is the 30th so i could wait four more days.. i dont want to be a pain in the ass though.. if you were to do it i'd buy you a meal or whatever in the mall
Edit: autozone does it for free? do you have to schedule ahead of time?

Since you already have an appt with the dealer, whatever you do, do not reset the ecu cause it will erase the troubled code. Go to Auto Zone as Bran said and get the code read and if possible get a print out. This will give u an idea of what the problem is and the dealer will be able to give u a more specific code for your check engine light.

I will be at the Palisades meet and I always have the scanner with me. I tried Autozone once with little luck. GL either way, let me know if you still want me to scan it. I know what a code majority of codes mean offhand being I had a few on my car.

Make sure you find out exactly which one it is. There are 4 of them. They arent all the same so it isnt like you can just buy one and try it out all over. They are also expensvie little pieces of shit!!! like $160 each. Suggestion.. If it is one of the downstream O2 sensors.. Get an O2 sim from turbo east you will never have to replace one again...lol

alright thanks for your input.. i dont know much about 02 sensors.. are they that important? it wouldnt fuck shit up if i got a sim and something was wrong with my sensor would it?

the O2 sime will prob make you run a bit richer. The sim simply provides a simulated signal to prevent from throwing a CE light when you install the header and remove the cats. It kinda fools the ecu into thinking the O2 are seeing the proper mixture.

Alright i went to autozone and got the code for an o2 sensor located after the cat... The guy said that he cant tell me which one it is after the cat.. its either code 13643 or 13644.. each is about 180 bucks.. He said theres really no way of telling which one it is... Do you guys know of anyway i can tell which one it is? i really dont want to have to buy each of them... thanks again in advance guys

WTF kind of codes are those?!? The codes should have a letter follwed by a our digit # ex P0430. The code you typed is meaningless. Just make sure you don't reset the ECU and I'll scan the codes for you next Sunday.

THe guy probably gave me the wrong codes.. I asked him to give me the readings but instead he just printed out the parts he pulled up... i think those numbers are the part numbers of both of the sensors... he just said that the reading said there was a blown sensor in bank 3 i believe.. after the cat.
Gray Rider... No im not under the basic warranty anymore.. just the powertrain
I guess i'll just wait til next sunday.
