Sup folks looks like next year JR will be looking to get into the bike world (hopefully *crosses fingers*) and I think I want a 600cc bike. Nothing fancy, does not even have to be new or fancy. I just want something decent that gets me to and from. If I were looking to spend some nice chunk of change I think I would look into getting either a Gixxer or CBR RR. Any suggestions as to what I'm getting into? I do have some riding experience but it's more in the field of off roading *ie Honda 400/450 EX sport quads* I'll also be looking into really good helmets and pads/jackets ect. Any good brands to look for? Thanks for whatever input.

My best friend has an R1 and he's an animal on that thing. (Does 160+ ) I really like the look of the R6 but I don't have that kinda cash. :( Thanks for the input.

Well... lets see.... first off i've been riding since '04 and have about 18k miles under my belt. before '04 i was never on a motorcycle before. I started of wit a Ninja 250R then after a year i upgraded to my current bike which is a '05 CBR600RR.
Riding off road vs on the road i would say is totally different, since u have about 100 other thing to watch for riding on public roads. If ur not looking for spend $, why not get like a sport type cruiser? like a Ninja 500cc or something as a good starter bike? Will still have plenty of pickup and its a bit more forgiving than a sportbike, throttles are very touchy. Right now would be an excellent time to pick something up, since winter is closing in fast!
As for gear, i've have a few Joe Rocket jackets and i've liked them. They both have held up great in the last couple years. If your looking for gear, check out ebay/craigslist. I had a buddy pick up some used mesh/leather jackets for 80% off cause the rider was no longer riding. I would recommend going to a place to try on a few first to give you an idea of what fits; for helmets do the same. My first helmet i got for $100, not bad worked to protect my head =) but i picked up a Suomy helmet which is lighter and quieter, but can run around $400 for those types. I would say start cheap, see how much use u get outta it to justify buying a more expensive helmet. + ur going to want an extra for a hottie on the back :D

Good luck! i just did a good ride today after work... getting nice and low around the corners ;) ...i can't wait to get a 1-piece suit.. track days!!!
