MYIS300T

It was a very busy weekend. It started off on Friday at PFS in MD. I finally made it back down there for my Race gas tune now that my engine is broken in. That info will be the topic for another thread.
On Saturday, Ray, Anthony (Weapon x), Jamie, Brandon (TDLI), Mark (Redline814), and a couple others, and I headed down to Mason Dixon to make a few passes. Ray had a set of MT E/T ‘s, 26x10 on Rx-7 wheels so we put them on the car. I drove the car to the track on them with about 30 psi in them. That was an experience in itself. I am use to 18” wheels and rubber band like tires that have very little give. Driving on the MT/ET drag tires almost felt as though the car was floating. It was a bit un-nerving to say the least.
As most of you know I have only been down the 1320 about 10 times, all on street tires yielding pretty poor results, 13.1 to be exact with 2.5 60’. This was on my emangle setup back in the TE days.
Since I have had the entire Turbo kit revamped and engine built at PFS back in July, I have not been able to get to the track once this year. I have just been enjoying the car on the street and getting comfy with the 500 RWHP I drive daily at 18 Psi.
So here we are at the track and I am a bit apprehensive about driving the car myself on the MT/ET’s so I ask Ray to make a couple a passes so I can watch and take pointers.
Finally, Mark Redline814 coaxes me into driving the car myself. (Thank you!)
Here’s how it went: (Keep in mind I built this car for Road Course racing, which is what I prefer to do)
1st Run
Temp 73 degrees.
Tires at 17 PSI, MT/ET
Car: 2004 IS300, Full weight interior, with the spare, 3/8 tank of gas, Garrett GT35R with .85 turbine side, Built bottom end, R154 5spd, stock LSD manual rear, stock TB with DBW intact, titanium springs and retainers in the head, HKS 264’s intake and exhaust.
C16
Boost at ~26psi
~630RWHP, 590RWTQ
Two Step ~10PSI
8200 Redline
Short burn out. I launched the car kind of gingerly because I did not know what to expect. I short shifted 1st: 2nd,3rd and 4th were ok. I felt the car get a bit loose but stayed in it. Results below. I was very happy with this run, considering the amount of seat I have going down the 1320’
I am on the right. #69
(Mark, when you get a chance, I sent you the video, can you please post a linky?)

2nd Run:
This time I did much longer burnout, which despite what you all may think, is a lot harder to do than it looks…. Especially without a line lock!! (I have budgeted this for 2007!) I took my time seting up at the line, I wasnt concerned about my reaction time, just getting down the track in one piece. I let the car go a bit harder on the launch; it was at that moment I knew what people meant about knowing when it felt right. The launch put me back in the seat very, very hard, I remember thinking holy shit! I almost forgot to keep my foot to the floor and shift. It felt real good. 2nd gear, I hesitated a touch, I was still in shock from the damn launch, third gear was a bit more of an issue. While in third the car started to rev real high. Dam! That wonderful HKS GD Max twin plate clutch was slipping!! (It has about 14K miles on it boosted, and is only rated for 700 HP at the crank) So I lifted and shifted it at around 6k and road it out in 4th. (you can see my suspension onload in the video) I remember looking over at the other car and saying to myself “I walking him down".
Again I am on the right.

When I got the slip I was very pleased. I honsetly think I can pull off a 10 sec run, no problem. I realized 2 tenths is quite a bit, however i gave up more than that on the last run when I lifted in third, and I beleive I can pull a 1.5 60' with a few more passes under my belt. Also keep in mind this was not done at my max boost level. Both passes were run at 26-27psi, ~630RWHP.
Ray tuned to the car to ~29psi which got me 655RWHP and 600RWTQ. I didnt make anymore passes that day, so I didnt get a chance to maximize the boost setting. I had it set from when we dynoed the car, but I guess at the track the air was less dense. Oh well, theres always next time!
I am very pleased with how the car performed. I am looking forward to next season!
