View Full Version : 50,000 miles service
i am driving down to PFS tomorrow to get some issues fixed (speedo not passing 105 mph, throttle issue and etc)
in terms of maintenance, i am only concerned about the timing belt, so i think i am going to have pfs change the timing belt for me. besides that, can you guys think of anything else?
thanks.

Well, if you want to do a major service a little earlier, such as the 60k for your car, you could consider the following...
Brake fluid flush
Coolant flush
Power Steering flush
Oil/oil filter change
Tire rotate(unless you're staggered obviously or fronts are in better condition)
Air Filter
Cabin Air Filter
Rear Differential fluid change(if you have the stock diff, use 80w-90 full synthetic gear oil with limited slip additive, or add in the limited slip additive to normal 80w-90 synthetic gear oil) If there is no 80-90, then 75w-90 is ok, but synthetic and limited slip are musts. Some people recommend the redline stuff or w/e, but that I know nothing of.
Finally you could also do a trans fluid change.
All the above items are easy to do, you could even do them yourself with a jack for some...quite honestly, the timing belt is mad easy to do too, but leaving it to the pro's is a sound decision. As far as the term "flush" goes, for power steering and brake fluid, you can simply suck out the fluid in the reservoir and refill with proper fluid, theres no need to change the entire system.
Oh, and if you're running on the original spark plugs, even though they should be iridium tip, now would be a good time to change it, cuz they might have the TB off anyways, and they are right under there.

50k service is only an oil change and tire rotation. Timing belt is recommended at 90k and if you are going to do it, might as well do the Timing Belt Pkg (timing belt, waterpump, engine seals and thermostat).

meh, water pump is something you really don't have to do till it starts to leak. In the IS cooling system, the water pump doesn't take any damage at all. Its very rare for them to start leaking until well into the 100 thousand mile mark. If you wanna do a complete timing belt, really all you would do is service the vvti solenoid, replace the timing belt tensioner, timing belt, and thermostat if you so desire...
thanks for your inputs guys, i really appreciate it.
